Modern license plates out by September

The Land Transportation Office will be releasing new license plates with “several advanced security features and a new alphanumeric design” in September.

“The public can start enjoying the benefits of cutting-edge standardized license plates before the end of September. They need not wait much longer,” Department of Transportation and Communications spokesman Michael Arthur Sagcal said in a press statement.

“Vehicle owners will begin receiving plates with new alphanumeric designs: the MV plates will now have a three-letter, four-number combination, and the M plates will have a two-letter, five-number combination. The private vehicle plates will also come in a black-and-white design, with a look similar to those in more advanced countries such as Singapore and parts of Europe,” DOTC said.

The new license plates come with laser-etched bar codes that will allow data verification with the Land Transportation Office, high-visibility reflective sheeting material, and will be attached by anodized bolt head screws and nuts to prevent tampering.
