Mobile soup kitchen inside Villamor Airbase looking for volunteers

Art Relief Mobile Kitchen was started by artists but you don’t need to be one to volunteer. Anyone “with a ready hand to serve is welcome,” says Giselle Montero, one of six hosts registered in Art Relief’s Facebook event page. On Nov 20, they entered their sixth day of operations.

This is a 24/7 operation and they need “cooks and all-around kitchen assistants who can serve with a smile” at the mobile kitchen situated inside Villamor Airbase. “Every two hours, planes arrive with around 200 hungry and tired survivors,” the event page reports.

The work schedules are from 7am-3pm, 3pm-10pm and 10pm-7am.

Volunteers or donors can bring all kinds of food and ingredients. “For fresh meat and produce, please coordinate…as we have limited storage space.” There is a Google Docs spreadsheet that shows the real-time inventory of food and schedule of volunteers.
