This is a simple yet brilliant move.
“The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has renewed its call for mall operators, particularly those located along Edsa, to alert the agency before holding shopping sale promos because of the horrible traffic they cause to motorists and commuters,” reports Anna Liza Villas-Alavaren in Manila Bulletin.
Crisanto Saruca, MMDA traffic discipline office head, said “motorists have again encountered heavy traffic along Edsa during the weekend on areas surrounding the malls in commercial districts: North EDSA, Ortigas, and Mandaluyong areas.”
Saruca stated, “We are encouraging the mall owners to coordinate with the agency whenever they have special events that will draw huge number of people like sale promos and concerts.”
Needles to say, “giving a heads up to the agency can enable them to prepare and make contingencies as volume of vehicles around malls adversely contribute to traffic situation all over the metropolis.”
