Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) traffic constable Niño Membrado was arrested after he was caught trying to extort money from a taxi driver and the operator of the taxi company.

“According to Ramil Clacio, Membrado had accosted him in Cubao. The latter had asked him for his license. Clacio happened to have left his license in Makati so he was unable to produce it for Membrado,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.

At this point, Membrado asked to talk to the taxi company operator, Regan Formento, over the phone.

According to Formento, Membrado asked for PHP6,000. Formento said Membrado specified that the cash should be given to him directly. Formento haggled to bring the price down until Membrado agreed. They then arranged to meet.

Unknown to Membrado, Formento had contacted the authorities. Membrado was arrested during their supposed meeting.

Formento also revealed that he did so because he had already experience extortion from another MMDA constable via another taxi unit that had gotten stopped along Agham Road in Quezon City.

Though Membrado denied the allegations, he is now facing extrotion charges.
