MMDA to test bus rapid system on Commonwealth

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said the planned Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system for Cebu City will be initially tested on busy Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.

MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino explained that the dry run, which will run for two weeks, is intended only as a “proof of concept testing.”

During the testing period, one lane would be used for BRT buses along a small portion of Commonwealth Avenue. It will stretch from Tandang Sora to Philcoa, where they will make use of existing concrete barricades.

The BRT system requires buses to follow a dedicated lane as well as elevated platforms for waiting passengers. The project is planned to be implemented in the Queen City of the South, the Manila Bulletin reported.
