It doesn’t matter if it uses state-of-the-art technology as long as it helps ease Metro Manila seemingly constant traffic congestion.
“Malacañang announced on Monday, Jan 6, that President Noynoy Aquino will launch the new traffic signal system and command control center of the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) within the week,” reports Aurea Calica in The Philippine Star. No other details were provided, though.
The report went on to explain that “based on previous reports, the MMDA has a new software for traffic light management.”
MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino had revealed that Metro Manila has a total of 421 traffic signal lights, many of which have to be replaced as part of a traffic master plan. He explained that these lights, which were installed back in 1976, are now defective. They tend to conk out whenever it rains.
