How many more crackdowns will it take to finally get rid of all these colorum vehicles?

“The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) yesterday renewed its crackdown on ‘colorum’ and out-of-line buses and Asian Utility Vehicles (AUVs) on EDSA,” reports Mike Frialde in The Philippine Star.

The report noted: “MMDA Traffic Discipline Office chief Crisanto Saruca said that As of Thursday afternoon, May 21, five provincial buses – one each from Lucena Lines, Pangasinan Solid North, Santrans, ES Transport and Partas – plying outside of their registered routes were apprehended in Cubao, Quezon City.”

The report explained that “the renewed crackdown is part of the MMDA’s preparations for the start of classes on June 1.”

The MMDA will also go after colorum jeepneys and tricycles, not only along EDSA but also in Pasay and Balintawak, Quezon City.

The operators of apprehended colorum vehicles will be fined PHP6,000 and their vehicles will be impounded for three months at the MMDA’s impounding area in Barangay Tumana, Marikina City.
