The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is proposing to reclassify concrete transit mixing trucks as “hazardous vehicles” like fuel tanker carriers. The MMDA cited vehicular accident and traffic data where a cement mixer truck is involved in a vehicular accident at least once a week in Metro Manila. Earlier this week a cement mixer truck lost control and ended up killing a 20-year-old student in Quezon City.
Accrding to the MMDA, reclassifying cement mixer trucks would make additional warning signs compulsory.
According to MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino, other vehicles would be more cognizant of the dangers of driving close to these transit mixers, the Philippine Star reported.
