MMDA personnel get “heat stroke” breaks

Given the scorching heat of the summer sun, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has given their personnel – traffic enforcers and street sweepers – a 30-minute break to protect themselves from heat stroke from prolonged exposure to the sun.

The 30-minute time outs were effective Monday, April 8. Outdoor personnel could take their breaks from 1:30p.m. to 2:00p.m. or 2:30p.m. to 3:00p.m

MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said these hours are considered the hottest times of the day.

Earlier, the Health department warned against heat stroke as temperatures continue to rise. On April 3, the temperature peaked at 35.2 degrees Celsius in the metropolis; the highest recorded so far, Inquirer News reported.
