MMDA: ‘No window hours’ scheme cuts EDSA travel time by 7 minutes

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has revealed that the “no window hours” in the number coding scheme has reduced travel time along EDSA by seven minutes.

“MMDA data shows that on Oct 6 and 7 — before the “no window hours” policy was implemented — the average travel time on EDSA was one hour and 30 minutes, with an average speed of 15.25 kilometers per hour (kph),” reports Robertzon Ramirez in The Philippine Star.

The report went on to disclose, “But on Dec 1 and 2, a month after the scheme was implemented, the average travel time was recorded at one hour and 23 minutes and 16.62 kph — meaning travel time was reduced by seven minutes and average speed increased by 1.37 kph. The MMDA data was taken from noon to 2pm.”

Thus, MMDA officer-in-charge Tim Orbos shared that he “remains optimistic that the travel time and speed along EDSA will improve as the agency, along with the Inter-Agency Council on Traffic (IACT), put in place more traffic schemes such as prohibiting mall sales on weekdays and imposing a moratorium in all road repairs.”

The IACT is composed of the MMDA, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
