Is it any wonder why traffic in Metro Manila has been described as “hellish”?
“Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Traffic Discipline Office (TDO) chief Crisanto Saruca said that since they started its crackdown on such vehicles on August 6, they have impounded 127 out-of-line and colorum or unfranchised buses and 14 Asian utility vehicles (AUVs),” reports Mike Frialde in The Philippine Star.
Saruca added that “the operators of the 141 apprehended vehicles were also fined PHP6,000 and the vehicles were impounded for three months at the agency’s impounding area in Barangay Tumana, Marikina City.”
MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino pointed out that “the drive against colorum and out-of-line vehicles have helped ease traffic flow along Metro Manila’s major roads, including EDSA.”
