MMDA, LTFRB clash over Uber and Tripid

Yes, in this fight, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) appears to be on the people’s side.

“After its spat over the truck ban policy, the MMDA is at odds again with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), this time over the operation of car service apps Uber and Tripid,” reports Jacque Manabat on ABS-CBnnews.com.

According to the MMDA, they “will ask the LTFRB to stop apprehending vehicles operating for Uber and Tripid, saying carpooling helps ease traffic in the metro.”

The report noted: “Tripid is a locally made app that facilitates carpooling. Uber, on the other hand, allows users to hire private vehicles partnered with the app.”

The LTFRB is against Uber and Tripid because the two don’t have a franchise to operate.

About 200 Uber service vehicles have been prevented from operating by the LTFRB.

This issue clearly needs to be clarified further.
