We can’t really say if this is good news, considering that we’ve heard some complaints. In any case, who can complain about a freebie?
“The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has decided to extend the free ride for passengers of the Pasig Ferry Service for one more week, starting May 5,” reports Rizal Obanil in Manila Bulletin.
It’s not clear whether the free coffee is still part of the offer. *Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Francis Tolentino said that the move “was largely inspired by the reaction of the commuters to their program.”
He was quoted as saying, “Public acceptance of our Pasig River Ferry System is overwhelming. We are thankful that commuters now begin to realize the benefits of a fast and convenient transport system along Pasig River.”
The MMDA claims that there were as many as 5,000 passengers daily. Once the free rides stops, people will have to pay a fare ranging from PHP25 to PHP50.
However, it has to be said that there are many reports claiming that people have been put off by the stink of the Pasig River.
Also: Let’s not forget that Tolentino is the same man who chided author Dan Brown for calling Manila “the gates of hell.” Tolentino said Manila is actually the “gateway to heaven.”
