Is this traffic scheme working?
Since Nov 2, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has apprehended 698 motorists (as of Nov 10) for violating the expanded “no window hour” for the number coding scheme. The violators were issued traffic citation tickets and fined PHP300.
That said, MMDA officials said they are considering increasing the penalty for erring motorists.
The areas covered by the no window hour are the following:
- EDSA
- C-5 Road
- Roxas Boulevard
- Alabang-Zapote Road
- Marcos Highway
- Recto Avenue
- Quirino Avenue
- Araneta Avenue
- C.P. Garcia Avenue
- Taft Avenue
- Shaw Boulevard
- Ortigas Avenue
- Commonwealth Avenue
- Magsaysay Boulevard
- A. Bonifacio Avenue
- Rizal Avenue
- Del Pan
- MacArthur Highway
“Under the number coding scheme, vehicles are not allowed to traverse major roads in the metropolis from 7am to 8pm on a certain day of the week depending on the last digit of the license plate number,” explains Robertzon Ramirez in The Philippine Star.
The report further noted: “The no window hour policy will be implemented until Jan 31 next year to help ease traffic congestion in Metro Manila.”
