What a waste of money and manpower!
“The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has been collecting an average of 4.6 tons of illegally placed campaign posters and streamers each week since its Oplan Baklas started in Metro Manila last month,” reports Mike Frialde in The Philippine Star.
According to Francis Martinez, MMDA Metro Parkway Clearing Group head, the bulk of the posters and streamers came from Manila and Quezon City.
The report noted: “The MMDA expects to remove more illegal campaign materials since the campaign period for local candidates started Saturday, March 26. Some 250 MMDA employees are sent out each day to remove posters and streamers placed outside common poster areas designated by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).”
The MMDA usually donates tons of illegally posted tarpaulins to a church-based education group to be turned into school bags for students.
