MMDA snaps more than 200 vehicles on first day of ‘no contact’ policy

You better follow the road rules, “Big Brother” is watching.

From their airconditioned agency in Makati, the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) can see our every move on the road. Thanks to their multiple CCTV cameras, they can now conveniently monitor traffic violations under the no contact apprehension policy.

It was relaunched on 8:30am, Apr 15, Friday.

According to MMDA chair Emerson Carlos, 146 vehices were tagged for violations as early as 9am. The number ballooned to 200 by 4pm, Inquirer reports.

The most common violations? Obstruction, reckless driving, and illegally using Edsa tunnels, the last involving public utility buses.

A 15-member team monitors these CCTVs.

Just by typing the license plate info of the vehicles caught on cam, they will have access to the name and address of the owner.

MMDA will then send summons. The owner must identify the person behind the wheel. The summons, will state the type of violation and corresponding fine. It will also contain a photo of the vehicle.

Those who ignore the summons will not be able to renew the registration of their vehicles in the Land Transportation Office (LTO).

Those who want to contest the violations may follow the procedure for appeals.
