After ONE Strawweight World Champion and Team Lakay member Joshua Pacio congratulated Jarred Brooks — an MMA fighter who has been talking trash about him for quite some time — for his win over number one-ranked Bokang Mansunyane, the American martial artist responded by saying that he’d like to buy Pacio a new TV set — after he “beats him,” that is.

Pacio took to Instagram to send his regards to Brooks, who has long challenged the defending champ to a bout in order to claim his title.

The Filipino fighter posted a video of him watching Brooks hand Mansunyane the latter’s first loss from his TV screen, a detail that the number two-ranked fighter seemed to notice.

“I just watched his Instagram story congratulating me and he’s a classy guy, but I gotta get that guy some more money with the TV that he has, I’ll buy him a new TV with the money that I beat him with,” Brooks said in a post-event interview.

Brooks acknowledged that going up against Pacio and defeating him would do wonders for his career as a fighter on the rise. “[Pacio’s] pretty much had that belt for 5, 6 years straight. If I can beat him and I’ll end up fighting him again and beat him again, that just puts a staple on a really, really good career so far.”

“[Pacio’s] a classy guy, I go against classy guys all the time. I’m a nice classy guy, but you gotta bring stuff out of them. I think I’ve already brought stuff out of Josh that he isn’t used to, Bokang as well… hats off to Bokang Mansunyane, it sucks beating someone like him, he’s a good dude… Joshua Pacio probably is too, but I gotta go on and make my dues and get belts in this division. Right now, I’ve gotta be the bad guy,” the fighter said.

Brooks seemed to be tempering his words after fans did not take well to him calling Pacio a puki  — a Tagalog word for vagina — in an apparent insult that did not translate well at all in a Filipino context.

The American fighter also revealed that he had spoken to ONE Management about a possible match against Pacio, adding that while he could not reveal details yet, “It will happen sooner than later — if Joshua takes it. Joshua, you better take it.”
