A Filipina working as a hotel receptionist in Abu Dhabi who was reported missing last year had been found dead, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III announced yesterday.
Bello said that the victim, Mary Anne Daynolo, had already been repatriated to the Philippines and will be autopsied by the National Bureau of Investigation. Daynolo’s corpse was found in January after the suspect, a Ugandan, allegedly confessed to killing her. The hotel worker was first reported missing on March 4, 2020.

“Based on the investigation of Abu Dhabi’s police authorities they found this Ugandan, and perhaps they managed to make this Ugandan confess that he killed Mary Anne by stabbing her on the neck with a knife,” Bello said in English and Filipino in a media briefing.
Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said that justice would be served for Daynolo. The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) will pay for her funeral.
“The OWWA will also give financial assistance and death benefits in the future,” Roque said.
Almost 542,000 Filipinos work in the United Arab Emirates, where they are employed in hospitals, hotels, and retail establishments, among others.
