It’s a tragedy to lose someone so young and full of promise.

The body of call center agent Lorenzo Peña, 22, was discovered on the fifth-level basement of an unfinished building in Barangay San Lorenzo Village, Makati City at around 3:30pm on Mon, Jun 27.

Peña was last seen by family and friends Jun 24. When he didn’t come home, his family immediately reported him missing.

“Regine Dioleste — the daughter of the unfinished building’s caretaker — told the police that she saw a man, later identified as Peña, enter the compound and the building’s stockroom at around 9:30pm on Fri, June 24,” reports Erika Sauler in Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Dioleste said she got scared and called the barangay officials when she heard noise inside the stockroom. She said it sounded like Peña was throwing some things.

When barangay officials arrived at the unfinished building, they reportedly conducted a search up to the third level basement. They did not find Peña. They assumed that he had left the premises.

Later on, the caretaker, Percival Dioleste, found Peña’s ID in the stockroom. He called Peña’s father, whose name was as indicated in the ID as the person to contact in case of emergency.

On Mon evening, Jun 27, Peña’s father, together with barangay officials, went to the unfinished building and found his body floating facedown in floodwaters at the fifth level basement.

Peña’s belongings — two cell phones, wallet with cash, identification cards, and fan knife — were recovered as well. His body was later brought to a Pasig City funeral home for autopsy.

Police are still conducting an investigation on what happened to Peña, who did not have any known enemies.

Meanwhile, Peña’s family has requested the public that they be given privacy in their time of grief.
