Mayor David Navarro of Clarin town in Misamis Occidental province was shot dead at 2pm today in Cebu City, a day after he was arrested for beating up a masseur.
Mayor Navarro was ambushed while he was with several cops and his wife, Elsa Navarro, inside a police van on M. Velez Street, SunStar Cebu reports. He was about to be transported to the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office for inquest proceedings when masked men in a white van stopped the police convoy, according to Rappler. Witnesses said that the attackers ordered the mayor to get out of the van, then shot him dead.

Elsa was unhurt, while five cops were wounded in the attack. Police Maj. Eduardo Sanchez, chief of the Abellana Police Station, told Cebu Daily News that they were caught by surprise by the attackers. A vendor said that the attack happened so swiftly that it took only a minute.
Mayor Navarro first gained notoriety after President Rodrigo Duterte added his name to a “narco list” of politicians who were allegedly involved in the drug trade.
He was arrested yesterday for allegedly assaulting a masseur at a spa after he was told they didn’t have a female therapist to attend to him. When a masseuse was sent to his hotel, the mayor allegedly tried to force her to give him a handjob, but she refused.
