She’s making it clear that we have options. But what happens when only the politicians we don’t like are running for office?

“Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago on Wednesday, March 25, endorsed tycoon Manuel V. Pangilinan as a possible contender in the 2016 presidential race, saying he is qualified for the job,” reports Ryan Chua on ABS-CBNnews.com.

The report noted: “In a speech on leadership before employees of the water utility firm Maynilad, of which Pangilinan is chairman, Santiago mentioned the 2016 elections, saying it is an occasion where people should know what they want.”

Santiago was quoted as saying, “What do you want for the Philippines in 2016? Bakit ba tayo maghahalalan kung wala namang improvement sa mga nahalal noon? I want you to think about those. I want you think about Mr. Manny Pangilinan for president of the Republic of the Philippines.”

When asked after her speech if her remarks were an endorsement for Pangilinan, Santiago answered, “Yes, it is. It is people like him who should be elected to positions of leadership.”

Naturally, the senator was asked if she still planned to run for President. She quipped, “Just because it is option for me does not mean you have to close your options. I’m just thinking aloud to young people what type of candidate I have in mind.”

Santiago, who is suffering from lung cancer, had said she would run for president if she is cured of her disease.
