“After inspiring a nation and earning the world’s attention, Michael Christian Martinez is set to receive a $10,000 bonus from business tycoon and sports patron Manny V. Pangilinan through his MVP Sports Foundation,” reports Mark Giongco on Inquirer.net.
Martinez, isn’t just getting rewarded for being the lone Philippine competitor in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. He’s also the first Olympic figure skater from Southeast Asia.
He finished 19th in the medal round of the men’s figure skating competition. That may not have given him a medal, but considering what he had to overcome to live his Olympic dream, that makes him a certified champion.
