The MRT-3 will suspend operations for two weekends this month to give way to maintenance and rehabilitation work, the Department of Transport announced today.

The train line, which runs all over Metro Manila, will shut from Nov. 14 to 15 and Nov. 28 to 30.

“The train line will have a temporary shutdown in operations of its trains during these dates to give way to Sumitomo-MHI-TESP’s bushing replacement in the depot and turnout activity at Taft Avenue,” the announcement said in English and Filipino.

The train line was supposed to close from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2 but it was postponed due to the arrival of Typhoon Goni.  The train, which has long been notorious for its constant breakdowns, has increased its speed from 40 kilometers per hour to 50 kilometers per hour on Nov. 2. The Transport Department wants the speed to further increase to 60 kilometers per hour in December.
