When is the government going to heed their plea?
“A group of public school teachers, led by Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT), will hold a protest rally in time for the opening of classes on Monday, June 2, to demand wage increase,” reports Mary Rose A. Hogaza in Manila Bulletin.
The protesters want to have the minimum monthly salary of teaching personnel increased from PHP18,549 to PHP25,000. For non-teaching personnel, they want an increase from PHP9, 000 to PHP15,000.
ACT National Chairperson Benjie Valbuena said in a statement that “they will take a mass leave if their appeal will not be granted.”
The report noted: “Valbuena said aside from salary increase, they will also appeal to the Department Education (DepEd) and President Benigno Aquino III to immediately resolve the shortage of teachers, classrooms, chairs, facilities, books and other instructional materials by increasing the budgetary allocation for education.”
