Metro Manila starts preps for Black Nazarene feast

A little foresight goes a long way.

“With less than three weeks before the grand Black Nazarene procession on January 9, 2014, the Metro Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MMDRRMC) is already stepping up its preparations for one of the country’s most well-attended religious events,” reports Christina I. Hermoso in the Manila Bulletin.

The MMDRRMC—which is also headed by Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Francis Tolentino—is also preparing for the procession of the Black Nazarene replicas at 3pm on January 7 and the vigil at the Quirino Grandstand on January 8.

The report cited Monsignor Clemente Ignacio, rector and parish priest of the Quiapo Church, who said he is expecting more than 10 million devotees to flock to the church from January 1 to January 9.
