Metro Manila public schools mull 3-day school week

It’s all because of the perennial classroom shortage.

“According to Luz Almeda, Department of Education regional director for Metro Manila, some of the most congested schools in Metro Manila, particularly in Caloocan City, have proposed that they divide their student population in half and hold classes only three days a week for each grouping,” reports Dona Z. Pazzibugan in Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Almeda explained, “The three-day school week is for the worst-case scenario.”

The report noted: “Under the proposed schedule, half of the student population will go to school on Monday, Wednesday and Friday while the other half will have classes on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. They will have to spend longer hours in class to compensate for their shortened week.”

Parents are not keen on the idea.
