Metro Manila mayors to “adopt” Yolanda-hit areas

All the mayors of Metro Manila are in on this.

“On Wednesday, Nov 13, the Metro Manila Council held a meeting with Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Francis Tolentino and Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa on how to help areas destroyed by Typhoon Yolanda and they decided that they want to ‘adopt’ them,” reports ABS-CBN News correspondent Niko Baua.

By that, they mean that each of the 16 cities and one municipality of Metro Manila will sponsor (in accordance with their respective capacities) two Yolanda-hot areas each. In effect, the Metro Manila locales will act as sposors to the devastated areas.

As the first phase of the “adoption,” each Metro Manila local government unit will send a 10-person team to do groundwork in Samar and Leyte, this includes assisting in the search and retrieval operations.
