Metro Manila is full of readers

If these numbers are to be taken at face value, then we can assume that almost everyone in Metro Manila loves to read. (By the way, November is National Reading Month.)

“According to the 2012 National Book Development Board Readership Survey, 92 percent of adults in the Metro read books,” reports Schatzi Quodala of Inquirer Research in the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Meanwhile, 86 percent of Metro Manila residents also love newspapers. Then, 56 percent claim they’re also magazine fans. Last but not least, there’s the 41 percent who are devoted to comics.

These numbers would have made us jump for joy, but the report said nothing about reading comprehension. Consider the fact that many “Bawal magtapon ng basura” signs all over the metro have no effect on a lot of people.
