The Philippines’ 2019 midterm elections are over and the (unofficial) results are finally out.

In some of the 17 cities within Metro Manila, yesterday’s polls led to a 50-year-old dynasty being toppled, a sister besting her brother in a mayoral race, and a millennial winning as mayor against a veteran.

Below, is more information about how candidates in Metro Manila fared, based on partial and unofficial results aggregated from the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) data as of 2:50pm today.

Quezon City

Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte will soon be the city’s new mayor as she defeated the recently-detained Jose “Bingbong” Crisologo, based on 100 percent of Election Returns, a report generated by vote-counting machines in polling precincts that show the counts for national and local elections.

Incumbent Councilor Gian Sotto, who is Belmonte’s running mate, won the vice mayoral race.

Belmonte, the daughter of former House Speaker and former Quezon City Mayor Fernando Feliciano “Sonny” Belmonte, was proclaimed the winner today after receiving 469,480 votes against Crisologo’s 366,215 in the midterm polls. Sotto, meanwhile, garnered 382,393 votes over rival Jopet Sison who got 343,473 votes.

Belmonte served as vice mayor for three terms with outgoing Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista.

Manila

Manila mayoral candidate Francisco Domagoso (aka Isko Moreno) has dislodged the 82-year-old incumbent mayor and the country’s former president Joseph “Erap” Estrada, based on results from 99.06 percent of Election Returns.

Moreno received 354,327 votes as against Erap’s 208,561. Alfredo Lim, who also served as Manila mayor in the past, got 137,424 votes.

Honey Lacuna, who is Moreno’s running mate, won as vice mayor with 390,332 votes, while her rival Amado Bagatsing garnered 265,097 votes.

Erap — who was the longtime mayor of San Juan City before becoming a senator, vice president, and president — became Manila mayor in 2013 after being pardoned by former president Gloria Arroyo for plunder in 2007.

Moreno ran as Erap’s vice mayor in 2013, under the agreement that the latter would serve only one term. Erap, however, didn’t keep his promise and sought re-election in 2016.

Moreno, who was a former garbage collector, vowed to clean up filthy Manila in his campaign.

The Binays have been very influential in Makati City ever since their father, former vice president Jejomar Binay became mayor, a post he held for more than 20 non-consecutive years.

However, Abby and Junjun have not been in good terms after the two started to compete against each other for the post. Late last month, the siblings had a very public argument during a church forum for Makati City candidates.
