Go easy on your power consumption.
“In an advisory, the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) said its rates will increase by PHP0.84 a kilowatt-hour (kWh) largely because of a higher generation charge,” reports InterAksyon.com.
The report added: “Representing the cost of power bought from Meralco’s suppliers, the generation charge will increase by PHP0.52 per kWh.”
The report noted: “Meralco earlier warned that repairs on power plants likely pushed up the generation charge, which is the biggest component of electricity bills. The February increase reverses a three-month decline in Meralco rates.”
Aside from the repairs, this month also marks the start of “the inclusion of the feed-in-tariff (FIT), which represents the rate guaranteed for renewable energy suppliers.” The FIT allowance amounts to PHP0.04 per kWh.
So, what does that mean?
The report explained, “Depending on actual consumption, the overall rate increase would amount to an additional PHP161.85-PHP419.63 in Meralco bills.”
