Meralco rates expected to go up in October

It’s up again.

“Customers of Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) should expect higher electric bills in October due to a spike in generation charges, as the power company said its overall charges will go up by 10 centavos per kilowatt hour (kwh) in this month,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.

Meralco spokesman Joe Zaldarriaga explained that “the spike in generation charge was caused by the shutdown of the Malampaya gas facility last month, which led to the use of the more expensive liquefied fuel at the Sta. Rita and San Lorenzo power plants.”

Zaldarriaga pointed out that “customers consuming 200 kwh will see an increase of about P20 to their October bill.”
