On the menu: Monggo and lumpia will be served on Duterte’s inauguration

Good news for the 627 people who were invited to incoming President Rodrigo Duterte’s inauguration on June 30! No need to stuff your bags with crackers and chocolates as there would be a grand total of five menu items for the occasion.

Lisette Marques, member of the inaugural committee, said that the menu will include monggo guisado in cups, lumpia, and pandesal with kesong puti and beef longganisa. For desserts, durian tartlets and fried bananas would be on the table.

For drinks? Dalandan juice and pine-mango cooler instead of buko juice as planned earlier.

“Via Mare is in charge and Glenda Barretto will be rendering variations on classic Filipino food,” said Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella in a report by Inquirer.

“It should have the expected Via Mare touch,” he added.

Clearly, the modest inaugural ceremony is not the proper occasion to eat like a horse. There are numerous buffets in Manila for that — check out 5 Metro Manila buffets under PHP700 that are actually good.
