As preparations were made for Pope Francis’ Luneta mass were underway, netizens laughed over or got very disturbed by photos showing uniformed men wearing adult diapers. No pants, just the adult diapers.
Facebook user Tony Ahn shared his photos of his hilarious sighting.
Ahn related in a comment, “[The men] were not walking around this way. They took off their pants, and were posed by a photographer, who is present in the top photo. I wanted to be sure to get him too. He actually [took photos of] two pairs of two guys but I only captured the second pair.”
In the days leading to Pope Francis’ visit, one of the burning issues of the day was the decision of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to have its personnel wear diapers. This decision was made so that, according to MMDA chair Francis Tolentino, there would be no reason for them to leave their posts as they would be guarding the routes of the Papal convoy.
Comedian Jon Stewart even made a joke about the MMDA’s diaper scheme.
As such, when the “Diaper Patrol” pictures appeared people thought the uniformed men were either from the MMDA or even the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Alexander San Juan of the website, Ungeek, later revealed, “We’ve confirmed that this was all staged as a social experiment [hatched] by Paul Agabin. We’re keeping the article up for posterity’s sake but please do note that the enforcers were NOT really enforcers. They were wearing fake uniforms and badges and were being directed.”
