Meet the new Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief of staff: Army commander Lieutenant General Hernando Iriberri.
“The appointment of Irriberi was made at the last minute, just before the change of command ceremony on Fri, Jul 10, where he took over from outgoing AFP chief General Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr., ending days of frenzied speculation as President Benigno Aquino III kept his choice close to his chest until the final moment after grilling the five generals shortlisted for the top AFP post,” reports InterAksyon.com.
The report noted that Iriberri “was chosen despite pending criminal and administrative complaints before the Office of the Ombudsman brought by a contractor against him.”
