Measles alert issued in Metro Manila

This is alarming news.

“The Department of Health (DOH) has issued a measles alert in Metro Manila as the number of cases of cases in the cities from January to December 10 has surged to 179,” reports Jomari Guillermo in the Manila Bulletin.

The age of those infected ranged from a one-month-old baby to a 37-year-old adult.

Last year, Metro Manila recorded only 25 measles cases. The figure we have now (179) indicates an increase of 616%. The report revealed that Las Piñas City had the most number of cases with 44, followed by Muntinlupa with 32, Caloocan with 26, and Manila with 22.

Meanwhile, Parañaque had 15 cases, Malabon: 10, Quezon City and Taguig: both with eight, Navotas: seven, Pasay: four, Makati: two, and Pasig: one.

Two people who were infected with measles died—one in Malabon and another in Muntinlupa.

DOH-NCR said that it has dispatched teams of nurses to some areas in Metro Manila to assist patients, as well as give vaccinations.
