Even before he assumes office, Mayor-elect Joseph Estrada has already visited the Manila City Jail compound to get an update of the situation there from jail warden Supt. Noel Matalvo.
According to ABS CBN News, even the city jail is facing problems of squatters or informal settlers in the area. What used to be 13 hectares of land belonging to the jail facility has been cut down to only 3.6 hectares of usable land. The warden informed the new Mayor that the jail is almost 200 percent over its capacity.
