May 4 is a red-letter day for those who grew up transfixed by Jedis and light sabers.
The reason why the date was chosen is corny, but we’ll use the Force on anyone who doesn’t find it funny. (We’re kidding.)
The date was reportedly chosen as “May the 4th” sounds like “May the Force be with you.” So, on May 4, Star Wars fans are encouraged to greet each other, “May the fourth be with you”.
The first organized celebration of Star Wars Day took place in Toronto, Ontario, Canada at the Toronto Underground Cinema in 2011.
“In Manila in this year, the Philippine Outpost of 501st Legion (an international organization of Star Wars fans who wear the costumes of the villains) will set up shop at the Resorts World Manila in Pasay on May 3 and 4,” reports Manila Standard Today.
That’s just in case you want to hang out with fellow fans.
