It’s actually a belated birthday reunion for Mary Jane Veloso and her family.
“Mary Jane Veloso, who is currently on death row in Indonesia for illegal drugs, marked her 31st birthday on Sunday, January 10. Her family, including her two sons, will be flying to Indonesia today, Monday, January 11 to visit her,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.
The report noted: “Veloso’s parents hope that she will be released from prison. They also called on the government to work on Veloso’s case, especially after receiving information that 14 convicts will be executed in Indonesia this month.”
Just recently, a Jakarta Post report cited Indonesia’s National Narcotic Agency as saying that “14 out of the 55 drug convicts sentenced to death are waiting their execution.”
However, the Veloso family’s legal counsel, however, believes that Mary Jane is safe. “As far as we know, it is still status quo,” said Atty. Edre Olalia of secretary general of the National Union of People’s Lawyers (NUPL).
Veloso was spared from the firing squad in last year.
