It’s been a long time since the UP Fighting Maroons men’s basketball team won the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) championship.
But it seemed like they were certified champions again when they won in the game against Adamson University Falcons.
“On Saturday, August 9, the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons ended their 27-game losing streak by overwhelming the Adamson University Falcons, 77-64, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City,” reports Renee Fopalan on GMA News Online.
The report noted: “Mikee Reyes led UP with 28 points, five rebounds and three assists, while JR Gallarza posted 24 points off an 8 of 12 shooting clip. Gallarza added six rebounds, three steals and two assists. Kyles Lao had 10 points, six rebounds and four assists.”
Later in the evening, the UP community celebrated the victory—the men’s basketball team’s first victory at the UAAP since 2012—at the Sunken Garden in Diliman.
There was a bonfire to mark the much-needed victory.
