Fil-Am Mark Muñoz got an ending worthy of a movie when he won over Luke Barnatt in their Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Fight Night 66 match at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on Sat, May 16.

It was Muñoz’s farewell fight. It was the first and last time that he fought in the Philippines.

Muñoz, whose UFC nickname is “The Filipino Wrecking Machine,” won by unanimous decision, with two judges scoring 30-27 and one with 29-28.

“Muñoz, one of the most well-liked people inside of the industry, didn’t attempt to hide his tears in an emotional post-fight speech,” reports Dave Doyle on SB Nation.

Muñoz started his speech by declaring his love for his family, Pinoys, the sport, and UFC’s bosses. He then said, “This is something I’ve dreamed about and I hoped for. I know I didn’t accomplish what I wanted to accomplish in the cage, but I invested a lot of time and I changed lives.”

He added, “I will cherish these memories for a lifetime. You might get hit by unforeseen things, but your life doesn’t end there, you get back up and you keep competing to the best of your abilities.”

Fertitta is a sports promoter and is one of UFC’s bosses.
