Fire razed a residence in SSS Village, Barangay Concepcion Dos, Marikina City on the early morning of Saturday, and the owner, 65 year old Fernando Garcia was surprised and was only able to get out of the house in time.
According to Garcia, he saw smoke coming out of the refrigerator he had just bought from a surplus shop. Arson investigator Senior Fire Officer 2 Noel Alarcon explained that an electrical overload may have occurred when the 110-volt appliance was plugged into a 220-volt outlet.
The fire was put out in about 30 minutes without spreading to other houses, Inquirer News reported.
