The Marikina City Government is putting up a fund-raising benefit to back its fledging shoe industry. In a statement, Marikina Mayor Del de Guzman said the “Mayor’s Gala: A Benefit Dinner” on Nov 12 is among the highlights of the city’s shoe festival this year. Proceeds of the benefit will go to scholarships of aspiring shoemakers who will be sent to institutions that offer courses on shoe design, manufacturing and marketing, among others. The gala features the fashion show where models will parade locally-made shoes at the ramp. Guests and patrons are to be served the best of Marikina’s cuisine courtesy of Kusina ni Kambal at Kapitan Moy Museum.
