An employee of the Marikina City government died of heat stroke earlier this week, collapsing during the flag ceremony at city hall.
Aries Pasco, a city hall employee in her mid-50s, passed out during the city’s weekly flag-raising ceremony and died at the Amang Rodriguez Medical Center, the Philippine Star reports.
The report quotes Michael Zurbano of the city Disaster Risk Reduction Council as saying the flag ceremony was longer than usual for the opening of the Ka-angkan festival, which coincides with the city’s founding anniversary. Zurbano added Pasco had a heart condition.
City hall employees have asked Mayor Del de Guzman to hold the weekly flag ceremonies earlier than usual given the summer heat.
