Is Sandro Marcos following in his father’s footsteps?
Ferdinand Alexander ‘Sandro’ Marcos has earned his master’s degree in Development Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
Sandro posted the photo on his Instagram yesterday.
The 23-year-old eldest son of former Senator Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. with wife Louise Araneta on Tuesday shared the news on Instagram, thanking his proud parents.
“At the end of the day, I could not have done any of this without these two people by my side. Thanks Mom and Dad for the constant support (and occasional push),” Sandro wrote in his caption. “Never going to forget everything I’ve learned from this amazing university, on to the next challenge!”
Filipino netizens, however, are not ones to forget that the Philippine government has only been able to recover a fraction of the estimated US$10 billion in ill-gotten wealth the Marcos family allegedly accumulated during the 20-year reign of Ferdinand Sr.
A netizen with the Twitter name “Halsey Taulava” said “I’d prefer to die, but in my existence, I was able to help send Sandro Marcos to London with my tax money.”

Another netizen “Nietzche Buena” said “Sandro Marcos is the real ‘scholar of the nation’ (referring to the University of the Philippines’ scholarship program) because our stolen taxes is what he used to finish his schooling.”

But of course, the Marcoses also have a strong support base online, so other netizens came to his defense.

“Former President Ferdinand Marcos is a bar exams topnotcher in 1939,” @IAmDanMonster said in his tweet. “Intelligence is being passed on and embedded in the DNA of the next generation of the family.”
Hmmmm… k.
Marcos Jr., a vice-presidential candidate in the 2016 elections, faced controversy in 2015 after questions were raised about his academic credentials.
Marcos Jr. previously posted on his profile when he was Senator that he completed degrees at Oxford University in the United Kingdom, and Wharton in the United States.
But a 2015 report by news site Rappler, revealed that the senator’s name did not appear in the graduate databases of Oxford and Wharton.
Marcos Jr. would later tell reporters on March 2, 2015 that he got a diploma from Oxford University but never finished his master’s at the Wharton Business School.
His camp would later correct his resumè to read that he finished a Special Diploma in Social Studies from Oxford University (not Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Philosophy and Economics), and did Graduate Coursework in Business Administration from the Wharton School of Business in University of Pennsylvania, USA, but did not complete his degree.
In an interview on DZMM during the 2016 election campaign, Marcos Jr. said his special diploma from Oxford was the same as a bachelor’s degree .
Marcos Jr. also shared a photo of his son’s graduation rites, adding the hashtag #ProudParents
