Mar Roxas trains sights on firecrackers

No firecrackers this New Year’s Eve, warns DILG Secretary Mar Roxas.

“Roxas has issued a directive to provincial governors, city and municipal mayors, as well as barangay officials telling them to prohibit the sale of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices that may cause injuries or death during the holiday festivities,” reports Czarina Ong in Manila Bulletin.

He likewise instructed the Philippine National Police and the Bureau of Fire Protection to team up and inspect firecracker manufacturing areas and warehouses to ensure the proper storage of the materials. Roxas hopes that his instructions would help bring down the number of casualties recorded in the days leading to the New Year’s Eve revelry.

Cities in the National Capital Region have the dubious distinction of having the most number of firecracker-related casualties.
