Mar Roxas says Janet Lim Napoles needs to be protected

Despite the protests over the ever-increasing cost of keeping alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles at Fort Sto. Domingo in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas insists that she has to be “fully protected.”

“Roxas has expressed hope that Napoles would spill the beans against those involved in the multibillion peso pork barrel scam,” reports Aaron B. Recuenco in Manila Bulletin.

When asked to comment on the clamor to transfer Napoles to a regular jail, Roxas reportedly said, “On my part, she needs to be protected so that we can preserve whatever she knows. This will also give her the chance to reveal, or shed light on the multibillion thievery of public funds.”

Napoles has been in Fort Sto. Domingo since September 2013. It costs the Philippine National Police PHP150,000 a month to ensure her safety. The government also spends at least PHP120,000 when Napoles is brought out for hearings, medical check-ups, and such. Since her detention in the said facility, Napoles has been out transported from Laguna to Manila and back twice.

Do the math and weep.
