Manny Pacquiao confirms he’s fighting Jessie Vargas on Nov 5

They say you can’t serve two masters, but boxing icon Manny Pacquiao clearly doesn’t believe that.

Pacquiao confirmed on Wed, Aug 10, that he is going to fight World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion Jessie Vargas later this year.

According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), the Filipino eight-division world champion made the announcement after meeting with his legendary fight promoter Bob Arum in Manila on Tue, Aug 9.

“Yes, the fight is on. I have agreed to a November 5 fight with reigning WBO Welterweight champion Jessie Vargas,” Pacquiao said in a statement.

It may be recalled that Pacquiao had declared he was retiring from boxing after his Apr 10 fight against Tim Bradley. At that time, Pacquiao was running for a seet in the Philippine Senate. In anticipation of his Senate win, he said he would bow out of boxing.

Indeed, Pacquiao won a Senate seat but has apparently decided to come out of retirement.

In fact, Pacquiao expressed that he missed boxing just two weeks after he officially started his stint as a senator. In another AFP report, he had said that he wants to make his mark as a fighting lawmaker. “The first time in history that a senator is still fighting in the ring. That’s a legacy,” he said.
