Manila’s senior citizens to get yearly cash gifts

The amount may draw some very harsh critics, but, at least, nobody can say it’s “overpriced.”

“Senior citizens in the city of Manila are now entitled to a P300 cash gift each time they celebrate their birthdays,” reports Jenny F. Manongdo in Tempo.

The report noted that the new ordinance passed by the Manila City Council is set to take effect on January 1, 2015. It will cover “Manila residents, 60 years old and above, who have been residing in the city for at least one year.”

Even those who are not registered Manila voters are entitled to the privilege.

The report pointed out that with this move, “Manila follows the lead of other cities granting birthday cash grants to senior citizens such as Makati, Parañaque and Taguig, among others.”
