Manila’s airport lands on top 10 most improved airports list

Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is not among the world’s best airports, but it is among the most improved, according to the Skytrax World Airport Awards ranking published earlier today.

We’ll take it, considering that in years prior, our airport had landed in the top five worst airports in the world. Even if we did only place last on the most improved, an improvement is an improvement.

Fiumicino Airport in Rome topped the list, followed by Perth Airport in Australia and Calgary International Airport in Alberta, Canada.

According to Skytrax, the award is “based on the relative year-on-year Quality performance by all airports featured in the World Airport Survey, and takes into account the change in rating together with performance changes across the different product and service categories in the awards.”

Maybe one day we’ll catch up to Singapore’s Changi Airport, which consistently ranks as the best airport in the world. (Here’s hoping.)

Also, with the new Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) set to open in June, perhaps we’ll see another Philippine airport on next year’s most improved airports list?

Here are the other most improved airports:

  1. Rome Fiumicino
  2. Perth
  3. Calgary
  4. Taiwan Taoyuan
  5. Athens
  6. Nadi
  7. Montréal
  8. Moscow Sheremetyevo
  9. Houston Intercontinental
  10. Manila
