The Far Eastern University (FEU) released a statement yesterday regarding the death of a student in their senior high school division, who fell from the 14th floor of his condominium unit in Sampaloc, Manila.

The statement reads: “Far Eastern University is seriously looking into the unfortunate death of an FEU High School student that occurred in a nearby off-campus residential facility yesterday, September 26, 2018.”

“We offer our sincere condolences to the family and are one with those grieving this loss,” it said.

FEU also mentioned that it is providing support to “all who have had close contact with this student prior to the incident, particularly his classmates and teachers.”

“The university will continue to strengthen its guidance, counseling, and mental health programs to help those in need of support,” it said.

The body of the 17-year-old victim was found lying in front of The Residences condominium at 5:51pm on Wednesday, The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported.

Manila Bulletin said that the student was a Grade 11 student. Authorities said the victim was brought to the Mary Chiles General Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Inquirer also stated that the student confided to friends that he was dealing with problems before the incident, but that he didn’t divulge any further information.

In the aftermath of the incident, FEU students offered prayers to the victim yesterday.

“Today, we mourn with hope. Tomorrow, we continue the fight against Mental Health stigma,” FEU student Russel Jhon Batoy wrote.

In June, the Philippine Mental Health Law or Republic Act 11036 was enacted which aims to provide mental health services up to the community level. It also promotes mental health education in schools and workplaces.
